There are many traditions that colour the big day of so many weddings; some have stayed with us for centuries and other a recent additions. Some we are aware of why we do what we do but others, we have no idea of their origin or pedigree.
At one time, in recent living memory, there were only two places where people could marry legally – in church or another religious place, or the local registry office, with Scotland enjoying different legalities and traditions than other parts of the country.
On one hand, we see an increasing tide of modernity, sweeping changes across the how and why of marriage, but there are still plenty of traditions abound that many couples can choose to indulge in or not…
